Refillable Packaging Competition
Reusable and refillable packaging is crucial for sustainability. Packaging design must shift away from single-use and recyclable solutions towards a circular approach. It is only when there are established reuse and refill systems that we can hope to achieve Net Zero.
To encourage fresh ideas, UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) has launched a competition. The Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging Challenge aims to discover In-Store refillable packaging solutions for high-volume liquids. Working in partnership with a large retailer, applicants must demonstrate that the idea is financially viable and convenient for consumers, retailers and manufacturers.
Successful applicants will be awarded a share of £1.5 million to demonstrate potential solutions at scale.
Is refillable packaging an area where you have expertise? If you have developed what could be a workable option, you have until 25 October to apply for innovation funding.
Funding for Reusable & Refillable Packaging
UKRI has funded more than 70 UK projects that aim to promote the adoption of reusable and refillable packaging. The UKRI website includes a Funding Finder, where you can explore other options that are relevant to projects that you have in development.
