Packaging Design Masterclass

Are you a small business or start-up looking to bring a new product to the food and beverage market?

Tantalising the public’s tastebuds with fresh flavours is an exciting prospect, but this is a challenging market to enter. You might love the taste of your grandmother’s secret recipe, an innovative infusion or the latest superfood, but can you convince retailers and consumers to give it a try?

Packaging Design for Food & Beverages

Packaging design is a crucial factor in engaging consumers and influencing their purchasing decisions, but where do you start?

Detailed market research will help any small business to map out and understand its target consumer. When you understand who is most likely to be interested in your product, you can focus on their specific needs, desires and price point.

The insight gained through consumer testing and questionnaires should be used to inform all marketing materials, including your packaging design and point of sale displays.

Food Labelling on Packaging Design

Printed packaging will feature company branding; colours, graphics and typography, but food and beverages also needs to include practical information. A full list of food labelling requirements can be found on the Government website, they include:

  • A Best Before or Use By date
  • Full ingredient’s list with warnings about allergens
  • Net quantity
  • Country of origin
  • Storage information
  • Cooking instructions (if relevant)
  • Alcoholic content (if over 1.2%)

Your brand might also choose to include recycling information and/or the logo of food assurance schemes that have approved your product eg. Red Tractor or The Vegan Society. An increasing number of customers are making purchasing decisions based on this information.

Packaging Design Advice

Getting your head around packaging design and branding is quite an ask when you are simultaneously learning about production, storage, distribution, funding, marketing and more.

This is why we want to let you know about a great opportunity. Food Matters Live is running an event on 23 November. ‘Creating Great Packaging: How to reflect your brand, connect with target market & increase sales.’

The event is led by Brand & Packaging Designer, Charlotte Raphael. She was the Head of Design for M&S Global Packaging for over a decade. As a consultant, she has worked with start-up businesses, including 2 Sisters and established companies including Harrods.

Despite a portfolio of big brand names, Charlotte has specifically designed this event for small companies and start-ups. She will explore how to create packaging design solutions that connect with customers.

Find out more about this packaging design event.

The ticket price includes a 30-minute personalised brand packaging consultation with Charlotte, to be held post-event. This is your opportunity to ask questions that are specific to your brand and product. How can you create engaging packaging design within realistic timeframes and budgets?
