Packaging Award Winners 2021

This month, the UK Packaging Awards were hosted in London. The category winners illustrate the industry’s shift towards sustainable, reusable and recyclable packaging.

Single-material Packaging

One issue with packaging is that it is often formed from a range of materials. These aren’t straightforward to separate, which makes them unsuitable for recycling. ReZorce Circular Packaging is an innovative solution. Made from a single material, it can contain liquids and is recyclable at the end of use. It won the award for Best New Concept in Packaging.

Alternatives to Plastic Packaging

Margarine is typically packaged in plastic tubs, however, Mergulo was keen to come up with a sustainable option for their plant-based butter. A printed box made from cardboard offers an effective solution. It won the Best Packaging of a New Product category.

The paperboard sleeve used by Heinz to package 4 tins of soup was the winner of the Cartonboard Pack of the Year award. Multi-pack products including tins and cans are often held together by plastic, but this is a viable alternative.

Printed E-commerce Gift Packaging

Winner of the Corrugated: Online Retail & Consumer Goods category was Vocation Brewery’s Father’s Day Packaging. This bespoke e-commerce box was the ideal size for the products inside. Internal and external printing made for a great gift and elevated the unboxing experience.
