Grown in Britain Packaging & Furniture

For the Coronation ceremony, King Charles III commissioned 100 oak chairs, crafted for Grown in Britain timber. This is one small step in the UK’s aim to build a stronger national supply chain for the furniture, packaging, construction and other industries.

Supply Chain Sustainability

At present, the UK imports the majority of timber used in manufacturing from Europe. However, we have woodlands and forests which could provide a more reliable source. We also have the right climate to expand existing woodlands. By increasing land covered by managed forests, of which at least half are grown for harvests, we gain environmental and economic advantages.

Grown in Britain

Grown in Britain (GiB) is an organisation at the forefront of promoting the supply chain sustainability that homegrown timber offers. They are bringing together land owners, sawmills, manufacturers and green organisations to think strategically about the future of UK-produced timber.

GiB will be marking its 10th anniversary in July and the fact that the King selected British timber for such a high-profile event is a testament to the progress they have made in the last decade. In addition, over 100 suppliers of timber and timber products are now GiB certificated.

Like the Red Tractor icon for British meat, we’d love to see the GiB logo being a widely recognised symbol on paper and cardboard packaging. Would this influence your purchasing decisions?
