Promote Animal Welfare on Packaging Labels

Students from two UK universities gathered insight from over 3000 consumers to better understand the information on retail packaging that influences purchasing decisions. There was a particular focus on meat and dairy products. So, which packaging labels do consumers look out for?

What Packaging Labels Do Consumers Prioritise?

The first insight of note is that respondents from all five European countries featured in the research showed similar priorities. That is, they valued freshness, quality and animal welfare. Therefore, packaging labels that provide clear information on these points are likely to be favoured.

Additionally, the research revealed that consumers perceive packaging labels about animal welfare, food safety and nutritional values as most helpful. Meanwhile, information about product or packaging sustainability was of interest but was not a priority.

Does this insight alter your thoughts on what to include and how to present information on your retail packaging labels?
