Cardboard Creations

When you think of luxurious, high-end Champagne, it is unlikely that corrugated cardboard is a natural companion. However, Champagne company Ruinart commissioned cardboard artist, Eva Jospin, to create an immersive piece for New York’s Frieze Week.

Titled PROMANADE(S) Eva’s panoramic cardboard creation is a far cry from the shipping boxes that we usually associate with this packaging material. The artwork combines carved layers of corrugated cardboard and fine detailing to evoke the landscape and architecture of the Champagne region of France.

It is stunning to see the richness and depth that she has been able to achieve using this low-cost, practical material.

Bespoke Packaging

As part of the brief, Ruinart also asked Eva to create bespoke packaging for 25 bottles of champagne. Her solution is a classic wooden box, with leather straps for fastening. Inside, the boxes are packed with layers of corrugated cardboard, which have been carved. The relief holds the bottle securely in place and hints at the landscape shown in her major work.
