Call for Consistent Labels on Packaging

The latest consumer survey conducted by On Pack Recycling Label (OPRL) revealed that 68% of respondents believe recyclable packaging is important. This means that the majority of consumers want to avoid inefficient waste management. However, around half admitted to being confused about what can and can’t be recycled.

Understanding Recycling Labels on Packaging

The issue is that many different recycling symbols are used and few consumers understand what they all mean. What’s more, the survey revealed a lack of trust in some of the recyclability claims that were made.

Feedback from the respondents shows that a standard recycling label system for packaging would offer greater clarity and consistency. This would increase the likelihood of packaging being disposed of in the correct bin, which would increase household recycling rates.
